Best Late-Night Eats

Chicago

Hub 51
51 W. Hubbard St., River North, 312-828-0051

The Draw: There are few places where a good bone-in ribeye is offered at 2am. This is one of them.
The Scene: A mixed-bag crowd (preppy scenesters, local business people, tourists) hover around the front-of-the-house DJ booth and kick back in front of flat-screen TVs. Sun–Wed 5pm–midnight, Thu–Fri 5pm–2am, Sat 5pm–3am. $$
Hot Tip: While steaks sate hearty appetites, smaller dishes like sweet potato maki and hand-dipped ice cream bars are perfect for night owls who only need a little jolt.

Paramount Room
415 N. Milwaukee Ave., River West, 312-829-6300

The Draw: The folks behind Volo wine bar opened this unpretentious gastropub, which offers an easygoing atmosphere and an extensive beer selection of Belgian gems (La Chouffe, anyone?).
The Scene: Motorcycle parking in the front loading zone sends the message that the crowd is not all six-inch stilettos and skinny jeans. Beer geeks, pool sharks, tourists—you name it, they’re there, and likely plowing through the house specialty: ale-steamed Prince Edward Island mussels. Mon–Fri 11:30am–2am, Sat noon–3am, Sun noon–10pm. $
Hot Tip: Any day of the week, grab a Kobe burger and a pint of your liking for only $10. Really.

Tempo
3730 N. Clark St., Wrigleyville, 773-549-0203

The Draw: A wall of glowing newspaper reviews greets you as you enter, which tells you that either the place is really good or that newspaper people often stay out late drinking. Actually, both are true.
The Scene: It’s coffeeshop-simple and always crowded. The long menu features its famous egg dishes (the apple-cheddar omelet is a classic); the thick toast is a perfect delivery vehicle for addictive jams. 24/7. $
Hot Tip: Assuming it’s not snowing, grab a table outside on the patio.
