Las Vegas
Hot & Cool
There’s plenty of trendy shopping to be had in Vegas. One the buzziest new stores at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is Y-3 (y-3store.adidas.com), a collaboration between Adidas and Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. Expect sporty separates and sport-inspired accessories, such as a knotted belt with Adidas’ signature three stripes. If you’re looking to gift someone this season’s hottest sunglasses, Ilori (iloristyle.com) at Crystals has everything from classic round tortoise-shell frames by Proenza Schouler to Pucci shades in wild prints. A few miles South of the Strip—and hidden within Town Square’s maze of chain stores—the year-old independent boutique Blend (blend-boutique.com) sells emerging, offbeat designers such as American Retro and Trash and Luxury. Designer Fashion Clearance (designerfashionclearance.com) is a bit off the beaten track, but it’s also where glitzy casinos dump their overpriced goods after final sales, which means couture garments are offered at bargain-basement prices.
Hip
Diamonds may be forever, but so are tattoos—and Dragon Tattoo is one of best places in the city for an inky indulgence. For a rather less permanent Vegas souvenir, you can’t go wrong with Bonanza Gift Shop (worldslargestgiftshop.com), which advertises itself as the world’s largest gift shop—while we’re not sure that’s true, the 40,000-square-foot space is chockablock with light-up Las Vegas signs, fake vomit, Native American jewelry, and faux-cash keychains. Even kitschier is the gift shop at the Liberace Museum (liberace.org), where you’ll find candelabra earrings, a desktop doll of Liberace in hot pants, and “The King of Bling!” bumper stickers. For tributes to a different icon, stop by the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood for flirty polka dot dresses, platform Mary Janes, corsets, and fishnet stockings at the Bettie Page Boutique (bettiepageclothing.com). If you’re after something a bit naughtier, try The Rack (theracklv.com), which stocks everything from your basic vibrator to, shall we say, more advanced fetish goodies.
Classic
Nothing says Vegas quite like the Gambler’s General Store (gamblersgeneralstore.com), where you’ll find everything from antique slot machines and vintage signs to books on blackjack strategy and fuzzy dice. For something less literal and more literary, Bauman Rare Books (baumanrarebooks.com) has a signed copy of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird ($1200), a first edition of E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web ($2800), and a 1947 Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary ($750). For something less bookish and more glossy, head to Assouline at Crystals (crystalscitycenter.com, assouline.com). The publisher specializes in gorgeous coffee table books on fashion, art, and design. Beautiful images are also on display (and for sale) at the Neil Leifer Gallery (caesarspalace.com) at Caesars Palace, including images from photographer Neil Leifer, who is known for his iconic sports images that have graced the covers of Time, Sports Illustrated, and People. If money is no object, head straight to the Strip’s over-the-top jewelry shops, which include multiple outposts (at Via Bellagio, the Forum Shops, Crystals—to name just a few) of Tiffany (tiffany.com).
