Lowdown: Started by homesick immigrants from Trinidad in the 1950s,
the Notting Hill Carnival is now Europe's biggest street party, attracting a staggering two million revelers over three days. Saturday is the steel band competition and Sunday the Kids Carnival, with the main
event — hundreds of floats, thumping music, and amazing
costumes — on Monday drawing the largest crowds to this very fashionable part of London.
