Best Weeknight Fun

London

Bar Italia
22 Frith St., W1D, Soho, 020.7437.4520
baritaliasoho.co.uk

The Draw: Hands-down winner for people watching in the city.  There’s a scene here 24/7.
The Scene: Soho never sleeps, and this miniature bar has been at the heart of its action for decades. The retro interior and limited pavement space are busy every night of the week with the most unimaginable mix of fauna—from drag queens to night workers—although Monday nights see it at its eccentric best. Drop in for a coffee, sandwich or pizza, and watch the world go by in the most vibrant part of the city.
Hot Tip: If you can’t bag a seat, try the equally popular (though less iconic) Compton’s Café right around the corner.

Heaven
Villiers St., Under the Arches, WC2, Covent Garden, 020.7930.2020
heaven-london.com

The Draw: The original gay club hosts London’s busiest midweek night.
The Scene: Monday night’s event, “Popcorn,” caters to weekend revelers who refuse to stop dancing to three floors of house, pop and R&B. Busier still, Wednesday night’s ‘Work!’ packs the same three floors with a crowd that knows no sleep. Expect a polysexual mix of tourists, students and clubbers.
Hot Tip: If you’re looking to meet someone, post your pic on the club’s myspace page before you go.

Oscar
15-17 Charlotte St., W1T, Soho, 020.7806.2000
charlottestreethotel.com

The Draw: The bar at the Charlotte Street Hotel is one of the few in London that is busier during the week than on the weekend.
The Scene: Charmingly English, this colorful hotel bar attracts a buzzing, after-work crowd throughout the week. Snappily dressed media types and marketing moguls chill out over brilliantly concocted cocktails and contemporary, organic dishes plucked from the à la carte menu.
Hot Tip: Stake out a spot at the bar before 7pm to avoid being left standing.
