Los Angeles

The Waffle
6255 W Sunset Blvd. #105, Hollywood, 323-465-6901
thewaffle.us

The Draw: Much syrup has been spilled over the pancake-versus-waffle debate. If you’re on team waffle, then this early-morning and late-night spot is Exhibit A in your case.
The Scene: A neo-classic American coffee shop with a breezy patio overlooking Sunset, The Waffle is a Hollywood go-to for indulging in creative takes on its square-shaped namesake, from blueberry-lemon to applewood-smoked–bacon varieties. The multi-page menu offers diner classics too (fried chicken, Cobb salad, build-your-own burgers), as well as a dozen vegetarian options incorporating farmers-market-fresh ingredients. Mon–Wed 7am–midnight, Thu–Sat 7am–3am, Sun 7am–11pm. $$
Hot Tip: Social networkers can follow @theWaffleLA on Twitter to capitalize on 25–50 percent discounts: They’ll come in handy for the Saturday morning patio parties featuring DJs, Bloody Marys, and mimosas.

LaMill Coffee Boutique
1636 Silver Lake Blvd., Silver Lake, 323-663-4441
lamillcoffee.com

The Draw: Premium caffeinated concoctions—such as the Coffee and a Jelly Donut (strawberry essence, donut-infused milk, and espresso) and the orange-infused cappuccino with cacao—make this Silver Lake pit stop a standby for caffeine-addicted Angelenos.
The Scene: The dashing two-room interior jumps like a 3-D flick, with bold colors, French toile walls, and stained glass at every turn. Gastronomic gurus sip gourmet coffee drinks and brood over small, avant-garde dishes from chef Michael Cimarusti and pastry chef Adrian R. Vasquez. Sun–Thu 7am–10pm, Fri–Sat 7am–11pm. $
Hot Tip: This boutique café is actually an extension of a superior coffee plant based in L.A.; you can take home many of their organic, free-trade coffees and teas.

Toast
8221 W. Third St., Central Los Angeles, 323-655-5018
toastbakerycafe.net

The Draw: This buzz-worthy morning-after café offers some of the best pancakes, scramblettes (fancy omelettes), and people-watching in town.
The Scene: Toast is one of those L.A. anomalies where the menu lives up to the madness, with a crowd straight out of a Gossip Girl casting call, and a menu of hearty scrambles and fresh-out-of-the-oven baked goods. Don’t miss the famous peanut-butter-and-banana smoothie. Daily 7:30am–11:30pm. $
Hot Tip: Cool dogs are the equivalent of cool cars in these parts. This dog-friendly joint provides complimentary doggie treats and water bowls for four-legged friends.
