Say goodbye to your grandfather’s steakhouse, and say hello to see-and-be-seen buzz, Russian novel–sized wine lists, and molecular mixology. These sizzlin’ steakhouses also deliver prime cuts in a thousand permutations of meaty perfection—from grass-fed and dry-aged to adobo-rubbed and pepper-crusted. Chophouses have never paired porterhouses and panache so well.
The Draw: This is a nonstop meat extravaganza, Brazilian-style. The Scene: Hard-core meat aficionados pack this festive South American eatery for a whopping 18 courses of carnivorous delights. Steak, pork, and chicken served on skewers are all part of the package. Prepare to spend several hours and to be popping that top button by the time you’re done. Sun–Mon 1–8pm, Tue–Thu 1pm–midnight, Fri 1pm–1am, Sat 1pm–midnight. $$$ Hot Tip: Come on a Thursday or Friday night and request a table upstairs, where live Brazilian music and jazz is played during dinner.
The Draw: Thick, succulent steaks are prepared the Argentine way in lovely, romantic surroundings. The Scene: Affluent patrons in their late 30s and up have made this a favorite on the dining circuit. The scene is business executives at lunch, couples at night. The rustic dining room is reminiscent of the Argentine pampas (plains) where the gauchos (cowboys) roam. The flavorful steaks taste best when accompanied by a rich glass of Malbec. Daily 1pm–1am. $$ Hot Tip: Consider ordering the parrillada, the traditional Argentine mixed grill that includes pork sausages and chops, beef short ribs, and skirt steak.
