No matter what style of fine dining you prefer—from that of the molecular– gastronomy whiz, to the latest Le Cordon Bleu–trained chef who re-invents the local scene, to the tried and true haunts that have earned the moniker “classic”—you will fine in these shortlists the pitch-perfect restaurant for a singular night on the town.
The Draw: Latin flavors blend with Asian, Caribbean, and classic French influences so artfully that Azul was named Miami’s first AAA Five Diamond restaurant. The Scene: Sleek and understated, Azul has unusual décor details, some subtle, such as the water curtain in front of the open kitchen, and others dramatic, such as the floor-to-ceiling windows affording bay and city views. But the expensively dressed businesspeople and special-occasion guests are really here to experience the extraordinary food. Mon–Sat 7–11pm. Bar 6:30–11pm. $$$$ Hot Tip: If you get chilly, the restaurant keeps pashminas on hand in a wide array of colors. Reading glasses are available, too.
Bourbon Steak 19999 W. Country Club Dr., Outskirts, 786-279-6600 michaelmina.net
The Draw: Much more than a steak house, Bourbon Steak showcases top-flight ingredients (American Wagyu, Japanese A5 Kobe, perfectly fresh seafood) and luxurious accompaniments, such as butter-poached lobster and truffled mac ’n’ cheese. The Scene: Glitzy with a glass-and-dark-wood, 70s-chic interior in the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club, Bourbon Steak attracts a dressed-up crowd from Aventura ready for a night on the town. Also popular is the more casual bar scene where foodies gather for crab beignets, beef sliders, and steak frites. Mon–Thu 6–10pm, Fri–Sat 6–11pm. $$$$ Hot Tip: The best table is 101, a cozy banquette in the back, where you can canoodle a little while watching the glam crowd.
The Draw: French nouvelle cuisine at its very best: It’s less formal than traditional French cooking, and more choices appear on the menu as exquisite small plates, so you can build your own dining experience around more than 20 tasting dishes. Plus, service is impeccable, and the award-winning wine list is one of South Florida’s finest. The Scene: The elegant (but not stuffy) dining room has comfortable leather upholstery, Brazilian cherry-wood floors, colorful frescoes, and vintage photographs. Expect a genteel and sophisticated older crowd made up of locals and business travelers. Tue–Thu 6–10:30pm, Fri–Sat 6–11pm. $$$ Hot Tip: Ask for a window seat overlooking the stunning pool.
