The view might be of the skyline, the surrounding coastline, a romantic interior courtyard, or simply your date backlit by the cityscape. Whatever the venue, summer is the time to dine outdoors, catch a breeze, and relax as if you are on vacation, even if you’re in the city you call home.

Miami

Gibraltar
4 Grove Isle Dr., Coconut Grove, 305-857-5007

The Draw: Hidden on a quiet island off Coconut Grove, Gibraltar at Grove Isle celebrates locally caught seafood and the best local produce. It’s one of South Florida’s true waterfront fine dining venues.
The Scene: It’s hard to believe this tranquil setting is only a few minutes from urban Miami. Elegant and intimate, Gibraltar has a breezy loggia as well as tables right on the water, guaranteeing a magical evening. Florida lobster, striped bass, and yellowtail snapper are among menu highlights. Save room for the key lime pie with salted graham cracker crust.
Hot Tip: Ready to pop the question? So many have because this is such a romantic destination. Just ask for one of the bayfront tables when you book your reservation.

Boater’s Grill
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park,
1200 S. Crandon Blvd., Key Biscayne, 305-361-0080

The Draw: Locals flock here for first-rate fresh seafood and Cuban cuisine, in casual surroundings overlooking No Name Harbor.
The Scene: This rustic eatery is part of Cape Florida State Park, one of South Florida’s most scenic parks because of its historic lighthouse and award-winning beaches. Tucked away at quiet No Name Harbor, Boater’s Grill is known for fresh fish cooked to order (grilled or fried whole), plus an excellent paella.
Hot Tip: They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But if you come here after sunset, you’ll beat the park entrance fee (and enjoy the cool sea breeze).

Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill
3250 NE 1st Ave., Design District, 786-369-0353

The Draw: Arguably the hottest dining destination in the trendy Design District, Sugarcane has cleverly created a hedge-lined outdoor terrace that feels like a cozy oasis that’s been a hangout forever.
The Scene: Young urban sophisticates regularly hit this gathering spot for drinks, tapas, robata, and raw bar. While you can order from a limited entree menu, the idea is to keep the tapas coming. Must orders: bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with manchego; grilled octopus; and, if you’re up for it, the grand shellfish tower. Oh, and torrejas (rich French toast) for dessert.
Hot Tip: Flex your social media muscle: Book your reservation on Twitter (@Sugarcanerawbar) and you’re likely to get extra-special treatment (but make sure you Tweet how much you enjoyed your meal)!
