New York
Pastis 9 9th Ave. (Little W. 12th St.), 212-929-4844 www.pastisny.com
The Scene: New after-dark venues keep opening in this neighborhood, but A-listers keep coming to Pastis, which swells with a chic, cocktail-swilling crowd most nights of the week. And while the waitstaff has French indifference down pat, proclaiming that you’ll only drink champagne from Champagne—and then ordering a bottle or two of it—elicits plenty of smiles. Mon-Thu 6-11:30pm, Fri-Sat 6pm-12:30am, Sun 6-10:30pm, Fri-Sat the bar stays open until 3am. The Clincher: When you’re turning another year young, turn to the spirited Pastis, the nightspot that best exemplifies New York City’s joie de vivre.
The Scene: The dimly lit Flûte is one of the most romantic lounges in town, or maybe it’s just the champagne talking. Actually, if champagne could talk, this place would be a-chattering, as Flûte stocks more than 100 varieties (10 by the glass), elegantly served in Baccarat crystal. Sun-Wed 5pm-2am, Thu 5pm-3am, Fri-Sat 5pm-4am. The Clincher: Canoodling couples will find plenty of candle-lit corners, but single, sexy guys and gals also flock here, because, after all, flirting goes well with bubbles.
The Modern The Museum of Modern Art, 9 W. 53rd St., Midtown, 212-333-1220 www.themodernnyc.com
The Scene: Just got a new job? Or a long-awaited promotion? Toss back champagne and celebrate your achievement surrounded by the creative accomplishments of world-class artists at the beautifully renovated MoMA. You’ll be surrounded by art-lovers of all ages, from stylish, silver-haired couples to black-clad Euro hipsters. Mon-Thu noon-2:15pm and 5:30-10:30pm, Fri noon-2:15pm and 5:30-11pm, Sat 5:30-11pm. The Clincher: Toast your career advancement in one of New York’s most avant-garde spaces, the ultimate shrine to cutting-edge art.
