The Draw: A true country retreat amid vineyards and forests, with Old World charm and modern comforts. The Scene: The Templiers was one of the first in the Relais & Chateaux collection, and it's not hard to see why it still holds their Best Country Hotel Award. Its location overlooking beautiful, oak-wooded parkland couldn't be more verdant. The hotel itself dates from 1690, and though every effort has been made to keep the décor in check with its history, it's not at the expense of style; the bathrooms are particularly sleek. With a large outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a golf course, and endless outdoor activities, you won't want to spend much time indoors. Hot tip: While there's certainly enough on-site to keep you occupied for a long weekend, it would be shame not to spend a day visiting the castles and vineyards of the nearby Loire Valley.
