L’Atelier de Fred’s Cook-Dating Rue St. Martin 223, 3rd, 01.40.29.46.04 cook-dating.com
The Draw: Stress-free dating at a singles-only cooking school. The Scene: If you don’t like the heat (of conventional dating), get in to the kitchen with five other hand-picked singles led by the amiable Fred, a dinner party host extraordinaire who decided to make his living from his passion after a career in TV promotion. Attracting professional 30-somethings, the program is sophisticated and fun—and you can learn a lot about a person by the way he or she cooks and reacts in a group setting. The three-hour session costs €70 and includes the food you cook in Fred’s warm and welcoming Marais atelier. And it’s open to all persuasions: the last Thursday of each month is for gay or lesbian cook-dating. Hot Tip: Table manners go a long way to impress in France.
Chez Jeanette Rue Faubourg 47, 10th, 01.42.46.12.77
The Draw: The beautiful bohemians, both behind and in front of the counter. The Scene: In one year, Chez Jeanette has gone from being an old-timers’ café that locked up at 9pm to one of the most vibrant singles scenes in Paris. At around 6pm the apéro begins and, as the night goes on, the place is packed. Spilling out onto the pavement you’ll see “smirting” (smoking and flirting) in action, while inside the candlelight and loud rock or electro whip up an infectious atmosphere. It might take a while to get served, but conversation flows around the old zinc bar that has never seen it so good. Hot Tip: The macerated rum shots seem to have aphrodisiac powers.
Murano Bar Blvd. du Temple 13, 3rd, 01.42.71.20.00 muranoresort.com
The Draw: The 50-ft long vodka bar is the place to meet the Parisian version of James Bond—nice wheels, fine clothes, exquisite manners, and irresistibility to women. The Scene: Even the hot-hued pop-art walls demonstrate that this is not a place for shrinking violets. You may start the evening gazing at the psychedelic video screen above the bar, but soon the room will warm up and you’ll either be dancing to the late-night DJ sets, or in a tête-à-tête on the stretch limo of a white Chesterfield beside the fire. The promise of the Murano’s sexy hotel rooms is tantalizingly within reach. Hot Tip: The highly professional voiturier (car parking) service plays a part in who comes here. If you have a Porsche key fob, flaunt it!
