Fillmore
Jazz Festival
 |
The
Lowdown: It makes sense that this event, the
largest free jazz festival on the West Coast, takes
place in the Fillmore, where dozens of World War II-era
jazz clubs hosted the major musical talents back in the
day, including Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Count
Basie and Billie Holiday. Now, current jazz stars grace
the three musical stages while 90,000-plus visitors
groove in the streets, sample gourmet food, and browse
fine arts and crafts booths.
When: Fourth of July weekend; free.
Where: Fillmore Street between Jackson and Eddy
Streets, San Francisco
