The
Lowdown: Theatrical parade floats, iconic
drag queens, inspirational gay activists,
as well as celebrities, politicians and hundreds
of thousands of other wildly costumed participants
gather for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender Pride Parade and Celebration,
which in some years has drawn more than a
million revelers. The party kicks off on Saturday
in Civic Center Plaza, where the Celebration
Area has live music stages and booths that
sell everything from food and drink to sex
toys; the Sunday parade along Market Street
is the most high-profile event.
When: The last Saturday and Sunday
in June; free.
