Best Weeknight Fun

San Francisco

California Academy of Sciences
55 Music Concourse Dr., Golden Gate Park, 415-379-8000
calacademy.org

The Draw: On Thursday night of every week, the California Academy of Sciences opens its doors to a 21+ crowd for an evening of cocktails, music, and provocative scientific inquiry. And you thought science museums were just for kids.
The Scene: Each week, the Academy invites hip local DJs, singers, and other entertainers to mix it up with NASA astronomers, oceanographers, filmmakers, ecologists, and world-renowned professors who come to speak on a variety of topics, all while crowds mix and mingle, cocktails in hand. Witness how interest levels rise as the night proceeds.
Hot Tip: Check the Academy’s website for details about each week’s event, so you know what kind of entertainment will be offered.

Solstice

solsticelounge.com

The Draw: This sultry lounge offers patrons a bargain with its ½ price Monday night wine special from 5:30–6:30 pm.
The Scene: A mixture of Pac Heights denizens and after-work revelers swing by this restaurant and lounge to sip vino and nibble on small plates that include Solstice’s spiced edamame, its addictive hand-cut fries, and its Kobe beef sliders.
Hot Tip: If you have a larger group, request the couches on the lower level. They’re incredibly comfy and give you plenty of room to spread out.

Glas Kat Supper Club
520 Fourth St., SOMA, 415-495-6620
glaskat.com

The Draw: Tuesday nights are salsa nights at the Glas Kat. Break out your dancing shoes and join in the fun.
The Scene: Couples whirl around the 1200 square foot hardwood dance floor as various DJs spin beats. There are classes at 7:45, 8:30, and 8:45, so even if you’re a novice, you can still work on your shines and swing steps.
Hot Tip: The club actually serves dinner; enjoy some fusion tapas before cutting a rug.
