The Scene: Hyatt on the Bund’s new top floor bar has seen a disproportionate number of media and showbiz soirees in its short lifetime. The draw? Only the best views in town, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the classical Bund strip and the skyscraper porn of Lujiazui. The spectacular corridor entrance begins the seduction. Sun-Thu 5pm-1am, Fri-Sat 5pm-2am. The Clincher: Want to feel like you’ve made it? Head straight for the top-floor jacuzzi terrace at the summit of the hotel. Sip bubbly in the tub before retiring to a four-poster daybed to soak up panoramic river views.

The Scene: Located in a 1930s villa within the former walled estate of colonial newspaper magnate H.E. Morriss, Face is a study of elegance and exclusivity, spiced up with some funky Southeast Asian ornamentation. The fabulous ground-floor terrace overlooks a lawn that could have been taken straight from an English country house. Modern touches include the ambient trance—and the high-rises that tower over either side of the perfectly mown grass. Daily noon-1:30am. The Clincher: The champagne list is thin, but the cocktails are wicked-strong (i.e., no need to order a double).

The Scene: The former bell tower of the Bund’s magnificent Three on the Bund building is a romantic setting for private celebrations. On the lower level of the eponymous dome is an eight-person dining room, while lounging haughtily at one of the highest points on the Bund is a solitary table for two. This is very likely the most exclusive dining space in the Far East. The Clincher: Lovebirds can take their pick from the menu—and the champagne lists—of all four of the superb restaurants below (Jean-Georges, Laris, Whampoa Club and New Heights). Naturally, service is by private butler.
