» Weeknight Fun Sydney
Nobody nails the weekend’s can’t-miss nightlife like Night+Day. But what if you’re feeling feisty mid-week? Forget about quiet evenings curled up with your Kindle—we’re giving you prime picks for Weeknight Fun around the world. Hump day will never be the same!
The Draw: Burlesque cabaret meets drawing in a naughty twist on the old staid art class. Throw in some tunes, some drinks, and some prizes, and you have the perfect remedy for the mid-week blues. The Scene: Arty by name and arty by nature, the ArtHouse lives up to its reputation as the hub of creativity with Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School, the infamous Brooklyn movement that’s finally made its way to Sydney. Aspiring artists are treated to scantily clad burlesque dancers, carnies, fetishists, and pin-up models, all posing in elaborate costumes. Classes are held on every second Tuesday from 6pm in The Attic ($18 AUD). Hot Tip: “Best five-minute left-hand drawing” and other such competitions are held throughout the evening, so be sure to bring your sense of humor along with your sketchpad.
The Draw: Dazzling city views, smooth martinis, and free manicures—need we say more? The Scene: This recently refurbished corner pub near Central Station has made over Thursday evenings with its Martinis and Manicures nights. Stop by The Chamberlain (or C-Bar) after 5pm, order your favourite cocktail, and enjoy a free manicure, complete with massage and moisture treatment. Hot Tip: Boys are welcome too. Come as a couple and follow up your pampering with something tantalising from the restaurant menu.
The Draw: Red-hued walls, fringed lampshades, silk drapes, comfy couches, killer cocktails, and cult movies make Tuesday nights at Madame Fling Flong hard to resist. The Scene: Tucked away above Soni's on King Street in Newtown, this cozy little bar embraces the avant-garde with its retro décor, subdued lighting, and relaxed vibe. Every Tuesday night at 8:30pm, the bar’s comfortable couches fill up as weary office workers and bleary-eyed students take a load off with cocktails in hand to watch a screening of a cult classic or foreign film (AUD $20 for movie, mezze plate, and glass of wine, beer, or soda). Hot Tip: When the show is over, hang around to soak up the atmosphere, or try your hand at a game of Connect Four. Movie nights are particular popular and seats are limited, so be sure to book ahead to snag one of the comfiest couches.
