March Love Letter

March is the month of St. Patrick’s Day and, therefore, not about sissy cocktails, but about beer and whiskey. If only an authentic Irish pub will do, head to Nine Fine Irishmen (ninefineirishmen.com), which is serious about its stout. Bartenders are well schooled in the art of the two-part Guinness pour (creating a perfectly creamy head) and there’s live Irish music and dance nightly.

For more of a British flair, head to the Crown and Anchor (crownandanchorlv.com), which combines classic English pub fare, such as bangers and beans and fish and chips, with an impressive collection of ales on tap. There’s live music on Saturdays, but most blokes come to watch the football (i.e., soccer) matches.

Okay, it’s German, not Irish, but if you’re in the mood for some oompah music, imported beers, and schnitzel, the Hofbrauhaus (hofbrauhauslasvegas.com) is as authentic as you’ll find in Sin City.

Die-hard beer fanatics and frat boys congregate at Freakin’ Frog (freakinfrog.com), which has the largest beer selection in Nevada and an upstairs parlor for more serious drinkers dubbed the “whiskey attic.”

Newcomer Yard House (yardhouse.com) is located in Town Square and is more of a scene, garnering an attractive crowd who come as much for the “meet market” as for cheap eats and good brews. Gordon Biersch (gordonbiersch.com) also attracts a more upscale crowd with its handcrafted lagers and ales.
