March Love Letter
Call in sick, give up sleep, and get ready to party this March. The Distrito Federal is hosting the 25th edition of its Festival de México en el Centro Histórico. From the 11th to 29th, you can attend close to 300 scheduled concerts, shows, and educational round tables in the city’s most important venues, including Bellas Artes, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Franz Mayer Museum, San Ildefonso, and throughout the Zócalo. Expect all kinds of street performers in open air venues, museums and cultural centers. As part of the spread, The Teatro de la Ciudad is presenting Mozart’s Don Giovanni on the 12th, 15th, 19th, and 21st, and contemporary composer Gavin Bryers on the 20th. All tickets are available through Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.com.mx). Check the festival webpage for more details (festival.org.mx).
And if that isn’t enough, the Centro Nacional de las Artes (CENART) presents the 12th edition of EuroJazz ( cenart.gob.mx/html/cartele/eurojazz09.html) beginning February 28. The month-long festival showcases Europe’s top jazz talents at the facility’s open-air Plaza de las Artes. Shows start at 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays. Admission is free.
