NIGHT+DAY Ins and Outs
Our books are published only 45 days after we
finish researching and writing each title (one of the fastest turn-around times in the travel guide industry), which means that our content is fresher and
more current than most other guidebooks. It's all part of our philosophy: The right place. The right time. It matters.
But our commitment to accurate, timely information doesn't end when
our books go to press. The updates to our entire NIGHT+DAY travel guide are available to download. Just select a city to download the update as a pdf. To stay up-to-date on the latest clubs, restaurants, attractions and more, subscribe to our

Night+Day’s Top 5 New Openings • February
LAS VEGAS • Christian Audigier
Streetwear designer Christian Audigier has teamed up with Pure Management
Group to open his own nightclub in the space formerly occupied by Tangerine.
Despite its name—which, let’s face it, doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue—the
venue has the advantage of an outdoor patio overlooking the Sirens Cove (where
the Sirens perform every hour and a half), and Ed Hardy fans will not be disappointed
by the décor, which is classic Audigier: red velvet walls, crocodile
leather booths, skull-and-rose–encrusted mirrors, and jellyfish tanks (which the
fashion mogul describes as “art in motion”). Skip the lines—and the cover
charge—by booking a table for dinner at Social House, the swish sushi joint just
upstairs from the club.
Thu–Sun 10pm–late. Treasure Island, 3300 S. Las
Vegas Blvd.
(Spring Mountain Rd.), 702-894-7580

LOS ANGELES • SLS Hotel
Brought to you by the “axis of excess” (club king Sam Nazarian, celebrity chef
José Andrés, and visionary designer Philippe Starck), SBE’s first foray into
hotels is over-the-top in every aspect. It has not one, but two lobbies (a private
guests-only lobby and a grander entrance for visitors to the shops, restaurants,
and bar). Andrés oversees The Bazaar, which features a patisserie, a cocktail
lounge, gourmet food carts, and a museum-like Moss gift shop. Starck’s surreal
yet cluttered Victorian parlor evokes Liberace, with a Lucite stag’s head, rustic
antler chairs, and chrome assault-rifle floor lamps. The 297 guest rooms are
just as luxurious and playful, with a Barcelona-style daybed surrounded by red
“lips” chairs and a floor-to-ceiling mirror-like panel that reveals a 40-inch Sony
plasma TV. With a sprawling spa, a 24-hour fitness room, and two pools (one for
sunbathing, the other for swimming), it will be hard to leave the property. If you
do, there’s a catch: The Mercedes Jet Van only makes drop-offs to SBE properties
within a two-mile radius. No pickups. $$$$

MEXICO CITY • Brasserie Lipp
Brasserie Lipp is a name of legend, evoking images of the famous Lost
Generation’s bohemian gatherings in Paris. It recently opened its first-ever franchise
at the front doors of the JW Marriott Hotel in the prestigious Polanco hotel
district to great acclaim. The Lipp offers a good selection of French classics,
such as onion soup, steak frites, and Dover sole meunière. On Sundays many
diners come for the popular veal fricandeau. No matter what your entrée, the
chocolate soufflé with English cream and apple tart will transport you to the old
continent. The formal atmosphere at Mexico City’s Lipp is more inviting to the
business traveler and politico than the bohemian. $$ Daily 7am–3am

MIAMI • Fontainbleau Miami Beach
What happens when the grande dame of Miami Beach resorts gets a billiondollar
face-lift? Gaudy embellishments are replaced with tasteful natural stone
and water features throughout its 22 acres; 11 restaurants and lounges open,
along with hot nightclub LIV; and old-school Hollywood names like Elvis and
Sinatra give way to Diddy, Paris Hilton, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Even the glamorous
kickoff event—the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show—tells you it’s a whole
new Fontainebleau. Some grand details, like the lobby’s famed staircase to
nowhere, remain, but guest rooms have been completely revamped and include
iMacs, custom bedding, and marble baths. Other enhancements: a stunning
poolscape and sleek cabanas; the two-level Lapis spa; and high-profile restaurants
Gotham Steak, Scarpetta, and Blade Sushi Bar, to name just a few. For
all-out glamour, this is the place. $$$$$

NEW YORK • Macao Trading Co.
Macao—a Portuguese colony in China—is the inspiration for this lively, bilevel
Tribeca restaurant run by the folks from Employees Only in the West Village.
Chef David Waltuck (of Chanterelle) has created a creative Euro-Asian menu:
Starters include warm chorizo with mint and chicken dumplings in chili oil,
while for the main dishes, you can opt to have your meats and fish in either
Portuguese or Chinese style. Pork ribs, for example, arrive either braised with
olives or prunes, or Peking roasted. The dark-wood, warehouse interior, strewn
with opium pillows and antique roulette wheels, evokes Macao’s red-lantern district
circa the 1940s. The superb cocktail menu is also a nod to those seductive
times. Libations like the Lovee Long Time, with elderflower liqueur and gin,
keep the smooth Tribeca crowd going until the wee hours. $$
