 Each June marks the onset of England’s social season. The U.K.’s most glamorous sporting event, Royal Ascot (June 15–19), kicks things off with royal spectators and sartorial showboaters with lavish hats. Next up are Wimbledon (June 21–July 4), the world’s premier tennis tournament, and the Henley Royal Regatta (June 30th–July 4). For those passing through London, our latest recommendations spotlight the hottest restaurants, hotels, nightlife, shops, and spas. THE WORLD’S BEST Summer Nights
Hot summer nights are about to get hotter. From sexy rooftop pool parties to epic outdoor music festivals to picnics by moonlight with live jazz or fireworks, Night+Day’s Best Summer Nights highlight primo nocturnal events for the beautiful, balmy evenings ahead.
DC • LIAISON SUNDAYS
 The Draw: Adult pool parties on hotel rooftops have caught on like wildfire in DC, but none attracts a more beautiful crowd than this Sunday lounge party that starts in the afternoon and continues ‘til 10pm. Think bottle service, bikinis, sunbathing, DJs, even a little dip in the pool.
The Scene: Adult swim, indeed. Hotel guests with families in tow will have to splash elsewhere on Sunday afternoons. DC’s most gorgeous collect here in their Prada suits and logo’d sunglasses, fresh from an embassy event or a fashion show, perhaps. The men are buff, the women beautiful, and oh, don’t they know it. Late May–Labor Day weekend Sun 1–10pm.
Hot Tip: For a less formal, just-as-fun daytime scene, check out the Capitol Skyline Hotel’s ultra-popular Saturday afternoon pool parties, whose DJs, live music, drink specials, and studly 20- and 30-somethings started DC’s pool party trend in the first place.
LAS VEGAS • XS POOLSIDE SUNDAYS
 The Draw: Vegas is sweltering during the summer months—almost too hot to go outdoors during the day—but nights are pleasantly balmy and the perfect time for a moonlight dip at XS.
The Scene: On June 6, XS opens its doors for a second season of night swimming, where servers trade in their bustiers for bikinis, and clubbers in Pucci cover-ups, Manolos, and seersucker suits sip cocktails while lounging on poolside cabanas. Sunday 10pm.
Hot Tip: Though it’s a pool party, you’ll still need to dress to impress—and, as always, the more girls in your party, the better your chances of skipping the line.
NEW YORK • BYRANT PARK SUMMER FILM FESTIVAL
 The Draw: Enjoy contemporary and classic films in the open air at Bryant Park.
The Scene: You’re in the concrete heart of Midtown. Yet as night falls, the warm wind rustles through the trees, the greenery is bathed in light from only the movie and the moon, and you’ll feel like you’re anywhere but.
Late Jun–Aug Mon.
Hot Tip: No time to pack a picnic? Go online and place an advance order with the haute sandwich shop ‘wichcraft (wichcraftnyc.com) in the park. Pick up your order when you arrive, and enjoy your meal with the film.

Lee Brian Schrager (Restaurateur)
Even before South Beach exploded as a hot, hip, global destination, Lee Brian Schrager was there. He opened the bar Torpedo in 1988, followed by the health food restaurant Chow, and next teamed up with Mickey Rourke to open the dinner club Spot. But it was his work shaping the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival that has distinguished his career, transforming a stretch of sandy beach on the Atlantic into a star-studded, high-energy destination event for food and wine lovers everywhere.
Now entering its tenth year, the annual festival began as a one-day event at Florida International University, showcasing wines and dishes from local chefs. Schrager, then director of Special Events and Media Relations at Southern Wine & Spirits of America, renamed the event and relocated it to South Beach, adding a series of dinners, seminars, a Grand Tasting, and a live auction. By 2006, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival was one of the best-known festivals of its type in the country, and in 2007, Food Network became its title sponsor. In 2010, more than 50,000 wine and food lovers attended the four-day festival, which raised $2.2 million for FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
The 2011 Festival will celebrate the release of the official Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival cookbook, written by Schrager with Julie Mautner, and featuring a foreword by Anthony Bourdain. Schrager’s name is also on the Lee Brian Schrager Excellence in Leadership Award at the FIU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, a scholarship awarded to three students who demonstrate outstanding leadership.
Through the festival, Schrager has not only heightened awareness of greater Miami as a culinary destination to outsiders, but also raised the bar for local chefs and restaurateurs, inspiring them to reach new heights.
