Toronto International Film Festival

The Lowdown: For two weeks, the streets of Toronto are home to the world’s glitterati at the Toronto Film Festival, which is second only to Cannes on the international film calendar. The movie movers and shakers are treated to Toronto’s own brand of laid-back hospitality, and increasing numbers of stars in attendance have made celeb-spotting the second-most popular pastime. TIFF is a huge fan favorite because the stars come down to earth–staying, eating, and playing on the streets—and they are often accessible to the public. Between the Hollywood blockbusters, small independents, and illuminating documentaries, you’ll never be able to catch everything of interest, but you’ll have fun trying.

When and How Much: Two weeks beginning on the first Thursday in September after Labor Day. Tickets $10-$20 each. A 10-film pass runs $154.50, other packages $65-$100.

Where: Various venues.
