D.C. • Adour • Restaurant (French)
What do former Sen. Tom Daschle, comedian Chevy Chase, and celebrity Chef Mario Batali have in common? They were all among the first to dine at Adour, the Alain Ducasse restaurant that opened in September 2008. The pre-opening buzz was intense; happily, the post-opening news is all good. From the gougére beginning to the tray of raspberry-pin and chocolate macaroons at dinner’s end, the meal is an exquisite pleasure. Well-spaced tables and shimmery silver and gold décor make Adour a romantic choice for a sexy tête-a-tête. $$$

LONDON • York & Albany • Restaurant (European)
The latest addition to the Ramsay empire features not only the expected restaurant but also 10 beautifully decorated rooms, a sleek bar, and a charming little deli. With Angela Hartnett on board, it’s guaranteed success on publicity alone, but the cuisine definitely delivers. The excellent ingredients and no-nonsense recipes make for wholesomely delicious dishes that borrow influences from all over Europe. We liked the autumnal feel of the menu when we visited, with its comforting root vegetables and tasty game. The clientele here isn’t really a true representation of the area; the smart West London types would look quite out of place in Camden, but they blend in perfectly with the refined chic of the décor. £

LOS ANGELES • The London West Hollywood • Hotel (223 rms)
London calling? No need to cross the pond with this re-imagining of the infamous rock-star flop, the Bel Age, which clashes modern California chic with timeless British sophistication. Architectural maverick David Collins, best known for designing Madonna’s home in London, headed the multi-million dollar articulation. The towering 10-story hotel offers 223 glamorous suites, all of which boast Italian linens, leather furniture, and Waterworks bathrooms, while keeping the striking Hollywood Hills views (the best being from the London Vista Suites) that made the Bel Age famous. Also retained is the 10th floor rooftop pool deck, now replete with English garden–style landscaping and luxury cabanas. Like its Midtown Manhattan forebear, it also features an eponymous restaurant from Hell’s Kitchen star Gordon Ramsay. With a starting price of $249 to $299, it’s a better deal than most of the surrounding hotels (and just steps from the Sunset Strip), making it a perfect base for shopping, nightlife, or red-carpet events. $$$

MIAMI • Loftin’s • Restaurant (International)
You can’t ask for a more stunning setting than Casa Casuarina. The one-time Versace mansion was bought in 2000 by businessperson Peter Loftin, who restored Versace’s extravagant vision. As a private club, Casa has hosted celebs such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and the Clintons; it’s also a tiny boutique hotel with 10 luxurious suites. Now open is the 120-seat restaurant, serving opulent menu items with a backdrop of splendid mosaics, gilded flourishes, and elaborate frescoes. There’s foie gras, lobster, and black truffle, and a Kobe strip loin goes for a heart-stopping $175. Other entrées, such as black bass and veal chop, are more reasonable, and sides, ranging from parsnip puree to braised shiitake, are large enough to share. Go ahead and splurge—the over-the-top elegance is breathtaking. $$$$

TORONTO • Madeline’s • Restaurant (International)
When this city heard that Susur was closing its doors, fans of the chef were inconsolable. Although Susur Lee has been lured to NYC by Thompson Hotels, he hasn’t left his hometown in the lurch, offering up this new dining experience named in honor of his mum. With its Moroccan design of rich colors and heavy textures, Madeline’s menu is a mix of European influences and Lee’s unique interpretations, such as a savory shaved fruit salad; risotto croquette with three cheeses, chorizo, and provencale tapenade; and the pan-fried Portuguese white snapper with bell-pepper citrus stew. Gourmands will adore the garlic Cornish hen with gorgonzola, and the classic roasted duck breast with honey. $$
